Domestic Violence Awareness Week Monday 19 November – Friday 23 November

There are various events and activities taking place across Swindon to mark this year’s Domestic Violence awareness week these include the opening of the consultation on the new draft domestic abuse strategy for Swindon and Wiltshire on Monday 19th November (see this page for further information)

Extended Definition Of Domestic Violence To Protect Teenage Victims

The Government announced on 19 September 2012 that the official definition of domestic violence will be changed from March 2013 to acknowledge the fact that young people between 16-18 years can also be victims of domestic violence and abuse. Swindon Women’s Aid welcomes this change and we hope the thousands of young people in abusive relationships will get the help and support they need.  Young people aged 16-19 years are more likely to suffer domestic violence and abuse than any other age group. It needs to be tackled effectively and victims provided with appropriate support.
