SWA Health service is funded by the Police and Crime Commisioner as part of the joint commissioned Domestic Abuse Service with Swindon Borough Council. 

Great Western Hospital IDVA

Our health Independent Domestic Violence Advisor Service offers qualified staff who are able to provide free and confidential support, advice and advocacy to patients and health care professionals within the Great Western Hospital.

Anyone who discloses Domestic violence or abuse whilst at GWH can be referred to our qualified and experienced IDVA service. We also accept self-referrals into the health IDVA service and both female and male victims/ survivors can contact us directly if they prefer.

The GWH health IDVA service provides patients and staff with free 1-2-1 confidential advice and support where they can explore risk assessment, safety planning, emotional and practical help and support. The service also offers departmental domestic violence and abuse awareness raising.

This support can also continue once they have been discharged back into the community.

GP Health IDVA

The GP Health IDVA Service offers bespoke training, support and advice to GPs, practice staff, and associated health care professionals.

Patients can access this service via their doctor or nurse or by self-referral. Self-referral can be completed by calling the GP Health IDVA directly, calling the 24hr Helpline, or attending a local GP drop-in (please see below for further details).

The Health IDVA provides patients and staff with free, 1-2-1 confidential advice and support where they can explore risk assessment, safety planning, emotional and practical help and support.
